Opal has quickly become the princess of the house. Her demure mannerisms told me that it was time to add a touch of luxury for my furbabies.

I found this white metal tin a few years ago. I wish I took a picture when I first purchased it, because it was covered in pink paw print stickers. They were removed before I even got my purchase home. The mug was actually a favor from my tea party bridal shower. Since I wanted to give the canister and mug a little more oomph, I decided on custom decals.

We moved into our home 3 1/2 years ago, and a short-haired muted calico kitty sat on our back deck and looked in through our back door. She would often sit under the oak tree behind our house and watch for signs of our family. As I weeded my garden beds, she would lie down on the mulch and keep me company. I would pet her and scratch her chin. Outdoor kitty loved Hubster, she would even stay near him when we was using the loud weedwhacker. Since she slept under our back deck and kept the mice and chipmunks at bay, we kept fresh water available for her. On some rainy and cold days, she would sneak into our garage.

For years, outdoor kitty tugged at our heart-strings. We considered bringing her inside the house, but thought that Rory (our over-protective guard maine coon) would never get along with another feline furbaby.

The week of Halloween, we heard a tiny cry. precariously perched, on a high tree limb hanging over the steep back, was our outdoor kitty. She looked at Hubster and me and cried for help. After a few hours, she climbed down the tree, ran up over the bank, and jumped into Hubster’s arms.

It was finalized. She had adopted us! Her name is Opal. ❤

We kept her in the basement until we could get her checked out by the vet and vaccinated. Then we moved her upstairs to her own room and slowly introduced her to Belle & Rory (our other furbabies).

Two months later…
Opal’s meows and chirps are so demur compared to Rory’s howls. She taught Rory what to do with cat nip. Rory and Opal aren’t fighting, but they’re not cuddling with one another. They are definitely curious about one another and have started to play. Opal is sweet and cuddly. She loves to lick my fingertips. She sleeps between my feet. She is no longer a skinny stray cat. ❤

My border collie Belle, really wanted to make gifts for her cousin and friends. So when I saw a cute set of bone shaped cookie cutters (which I scored for free with my craft store rewards coupon), I knew she would be able to fulfill her generous wish. We looked on-line through several recipes and decided to create our own recipe based off of common ingredients and what we had on hand.

Dog Bone Cookie Cutters

Dog Bone Cookie Cutters

Ingredients:
2 c. flour, 1 c. cornmeal, 1/2 c. wheat germ, 2 Tbs. beef bouillon, 1/2 tsp. yeast, 1 Tbs. crushed mint, 1 Tbs. parsley, 1 egg, 1 Tbs. vegetable oil, 1 cup hot water

Directions:
Preheat oven to 300°F. Mix together hot water, bouillon and yeast, set aside. Mix together flour, cornmeal, wheat germ, mint and parsley. Stir in egg  and stock mixture to flour mixture. Allow dough to sit for 20 minutes. Roll dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4″ thick. Using cookie cutters, cut dough into bone shapes. Bake for 45 minutes. Turn off oven, leave biscuits in the oven with the door cracked open.

My beautiful border collie, stayed in the kitchen enjoying the excitement of making gifts for others.

*I’m going to bag the treats and create little gift tags (ie: To: Marley      Love, Belle) for Belle’s buddies.

*I used three different bone sizes and didn’t need to vary the baking time.

*Next time I plan to brush on egg wash before baking, this will give biscuits a polished look.

*This recipe created about 70 dog biscuits, for a fraction of the cost at the store and I know there are no filled and preservatives going into my dog.
