10 more days until Christmas, that means only 9 more shopping days! Admit it, most people spend money on themselves while the are holiday shopping, whether it’s an item on sale that you need or a promotional discounted second item you keep for yourself. If most of us cannot resist the temptation, it must be human nature for a little bit of immediate gratification to be wrapped up with our generosity. Making gifts for others is no exception, I still have to make something for myself now and then…

Earrings are my weakness; chunky chandeliers hanging from my ears. I have a plethora of earring findings and beads on hand at all times, but I had found the base for these on clearance a few months back. With all the layers of bulky sweaters and thick scarves it is a little hard to feel glamorous, but it’s time for my ears to sing. I used the same beads for the wine glass charms I made recently; the assortment of colors blended together, challenging me to incorporate colors not normally in my clothing palette. These earrings surprisingly coordinate with purples, browns, creams, grays, yellows, browns and pinks, since the beads shimmer and reflect different colors.

Since the bases were on clearance and the beads and other findings were left over from other projects, these cost me about $3 a pair, not too shabby for a chic new accessory.

Whether making these for yourself or someone else, these chandelier earrings make a great stocking stuffer… even if you don’t wait to wear them.

Did you purchase anything for yourself while holiday shopping? If so, what did you get and are you going to wait to use it?..

Something old, Something new,
Something borrowed, Something blue,
And a lucky sixpence in her shoe…

My one girlfriends got married this weekend at an intimate lakeside ceremony, followed by an outdoor reception. The autumnal leaves of yellow, orange, red and brown surrounded her with vibrant, joyful colors. The chocolate-brown bridesmaid dresses contrasted the white gown on the bride. Her dress was her something borrowed, but I wanted to make sure she had something new and something blue. I made these simple, yet elegant earrings to grace her ear lobes on her special day. They’re similar to the bridesmaid earrings I made and shared with you yesterday, embellished a bit more. Hubster & I both wish her the best of luck as they start their journey and new family together.

I created this look using white pearls, silver bead wire, small blue crystals, small clamps and silver earring hooks.

Brides out there, what was your something blue?

One of my girlfriends is getting married today, Congrats Joshua & Best Wishes Brandi! While we are away today at her intimate outdoor lakeside wedding, I wanted to share something I made for the bridesmaids. Brandi let us pick out the dresses we wanted, as long as they were chocolate-brown (I have a cute tea length strapless). About a month ago, I found these beautiful chocolate-brown pearls and thought they would make beautiful earring for us bridesmaids. I love brown and look forward to wearing these again and again. I just hope the other bridesmaids love them just as much, and I have a feeling they do!

Inner Jewelry Maker Returns
During undergrad, I made scarfs, hats, purses, ear-warmers for gifts for my family and friends. I eventually sold my crafts to my friends (to use as gifts) and then eventually to other students after much persuading (them persuading, not me). Just before winter holiday was a busy time, I would crochet while studying. One year later, after making jewelry for a play, several friends asked me to make them similar earrings, bracelets and necklaces and that was surprisingly where the profit was. Which totally made sense! After all,  I was an earring queen: I always had a different pair for each outfit, colorful, funky, classic, chic, I had all my bases covered. I liked to make new ones to match my outfits, because I could never find the pairs that were just right at the store. After graduating it was a few years later until I made earrings for my bridal party. I’ve been itching to start my earring making again, so I made a stop at a craft store and restocked a few jewelry making essentials. I had so much fun, I made 20 pairs the first day! I think I’ll set some up during our community yard & craft sale and see how they do…

I got a preloved top earlier this week (it’s the first picture in this post) and decided I needed to make earrings to go with it, since none of mine quite worked. I pulled out some jewelry making supplies and beads, started working, designing and creating my new chandelier earrings. Using red and this shade of blue together (for myself) pushed me a little out of my comfort zone, however I think it matches the top.

I think they turned out nicely and I’m looking forward to wearing them this fall. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Until Death Do Us Apart…

Hubster and I got married in 2007 at a private ceremony, in 2008 we had a big wedding & reception for our families and friends.

I made everything… decorations, food, and bridal party gifts. My sister blogged about some of the wedding gifts I made for my bridal party last summer.  I embroidered tank tops for the girls to wear beforehand, made earrings for the wedding, two styles (one for the junior bridesmaids and two of the bridesmaids and longer ones for my bridesmaids who can handle the length of the chandelier earrings), gave them a pashmina, and put together a survival kit for the weekend. I did purchase my flower girl a raw pearl necklace, since she’s too young for earrings.

Below are the program fans, flower arrangements, and centerpieces I made. The few days before the wedding, my family and friends helped out to bring it all together. My sister and her partner folded all 150 cloth napkins into a bishop’s hat with the directions we found at this website.

Bridesmaid Survival Kit:
I purchased a make-up bag in the wedding colors and filled it with essentials for an outdoor summer wedding. I included a travel pack of tissues, package of blotting papers, toothbrush, travel toothpaste, Tide-To-Go stick, safety pins, 7 sided nail buffer, french manicure set, etc… My junior bridesmaids received a purse in the wedding colors with more age appropriate things, lip-gloss with a heart-shaped compact, a sparkly toothbrush, and many of the things above…

My flower girl received a white ruffle purse, with a TY teddy bear, pearl necklace, small tiara, raw pearl necklace, and a pool blue sash for her white dress.

I would like to eventually post some of the recipes, more pictures, and craft directions. If you leave any questions you have on this post, I will reply to it.

XOXO,
Young Wifey
