A few years ago in the gardens at Brodick Castle on the Isle of Arran, Scotland, I took photographs of the gorgeous flowers just after a rainstorm.

Our guest room was desperately in need of a focal point above the bed. Afterall, the accent wall is the boldest color I’ve ever painted on a wall!

I decided that some of the blooms would be perfect wall art for our home, so I ordered 8″x10″ photos and added them to white floating picture frames. Going with the straight lines of the headboard, Hubster and I mounted them in a simple arrangement.

Unfortunately I couldn’t get a great photo of the finished project, you need to see it in person.

Saturday was such a busy crazy day here, with Hubster, Pumpkin and I all trying to get separate things accomplished. However, it was nice to actually sit down for three meals together in one day (such a rarity). I had a list of crafts that I wanted to get done this weekend, and somehow only managed time for one (although, I did manage to use four 40% coupons at Michael’s). Throw pillows for my guest room.

I printed a few images (from Graphics Fairy of course) on fabric transfer paper and ironed it to the front of a champagne colored napkin. The king and queen crowns were a perfect choice for determining a his and her side of the bed.  I stitched the wrong sides together, leaving an open at the bottom. Then I clipped the corners, turned fabric right-side out and pressed the seams. I stuffed the pillows and quickly stitched them shut.

I thought about sewing an edging on the pillows, but decided against it. It was time for use to snuggle on the couch and watch a movie.Majestic Throw Pillows for Guest Room

I absolutely love how my French Chic Lamp turned out! I wanted to create another lampshade for my guest room using the lamp that was in my nursery as a baby. When I was a little girl it got a new lamp shade, and another new lampshade in my teens and again in college. Therefore, it only makes sense that now in my grown up home, it gets a new shade again.

I wanted a more simplistic design for this shade, while sticking with the French theme. I also wanted to try my hand at creating printable graphic from a photo. I chose a Dom Pérignon label and successfully created a black and white printable. Yay, me! However I’m having difficulty saving it as a sharable file.

I then used to same image transfer method that I did for my first lamp. I look forward to creating more printable graphics from pictures.

I’ve been extremely busy and life has felt a little chaotic. I have many projects and recipes that I want to get to, but I haven’t been able to find the time. It seems every so often I need to remind myself to make the time for the things I enjoy, because even though I’m fitting more in, it feels less chaotic to me.

I found this beautiful crystal lamp at a yard sale in the fall and immediately envisioned a gorgeous french chic lamp for my guest room. My dad insisted that I needed to rewire the lamp before using it… so dad, please pretend I already did that step.

The mismatched lampshade might have been the right fit size-wise, but definitely not style-wise. Then I was on the hunt for a lampshade. Each store I went to had something similar to what I desired, but none were quite right. One store I thought I found the right shade, but it was too big. I felt like Goldilocks and temporarily gave up on my search, after all the guest room didn’t get used too often.

Last week,I was checking the clearance racks at Target and I decided to go down the lamp aisle. I had already checked this store before, but it was like destiny – the perfect lampshade for my lamp. Goldilocks found the one that was just right.

My first step was to sand down the rusted metal piece and spray it with metallic silver Rustoleum.

I hopped over to The Graphics Fairy and printed some French Ephemera that I planned to transfer to the white lampshade. As a child, did you ever trace a picture using the window sill? Easiest way to transfer an image right? I positioned my print and taped it to the inside of the shade and turned on the light. Using a black fine-point Sharpie pen. I traced the image. Since the lamp shade was fabric, it needs to be a bleed-free. I grabbed the wrong one to start, can you guess where?

frenchlampAfter a little TLC and craftiness, my lamp looks worlds better. It’s such a simple and quick project. Maybe you’ve seen the fairy light I’ve already made for my guest room.

What crafts or projects do you have planned for this weekend?

When replaced the boring mirror in the powder room with something more luxurious, we still had the plain old mirror. I wanted to keep, frame and use it in the guest room. This summer I found this tutorial and thought it was a great idea. Recently, I saw it again, floating around on Pinterest. I headed to Lowe’s to pick of the perfect tiles.

I didn’t use the adhesive she did, instead I tried DAP StrongStik, Instant Grab Adhesive. I spotted beautiful mother-of-pearl type of tiles that would match the curtain rods and holdbacks in the master suite and knew it would be perfect, since I like cohesive design elements throughout my home. Since the tiles were smaller than the ones she used and my mirror larger, I decided to do a double row of tiles. I placed my mirror flat on my craft table while working on it and to let it set. Hubster will hang it in the guest room soon.

One of the fantastic things about having a bigger house is actually having a guest room. A few years ago we got a new mattress and boxspring and kept our old ones knowing we’d have a guest room in the future. We went to visit my family in Philly over our Christmas break and my mother gave us the bed frame & headboard from my grandmother’s spare room. I guess my parents were tired of having the boxspring & mattress on the floor while they stay over.

I wanted to redo this with a cute crackle finish, but Hubster vetoed the shabby chic look (I’ll just have to pull it off in other parts of the room).

After a thorough cleaning and several coats of white paint (I used the trim & door paint we purchased from Sherwin Williams, knowing it would hold up to a good cleaning), we carried the headboard and frame upstairs and quickly assembled them.

I know the after picture isn’t fantastic, I still need some time to create some bedding and cute throw pillows. One step closer to actually having our guest room put together.

What is one DIY home project this is on your short list?

In the process of setting up a guest room, I’ve shown you some of the birdcages I have in the room. I found this adorable birdcage light on Pinterest and remembered I had seen one a few years ago and wanted to recreate my own. I used 3 strands of 100 white lights with white cords and filled my shabby chic bird house to light up my guest room.fairylights
