A friend of mine purchased small clutches for her bridesmaids (now she says she wishes I’d made them) and wanted me to come up with a really small emergency kit to stuff into them and well as small kits the groomsmen could slip into their pockets. She wanted to give them their ER kits the night before at the rehearsal dinner (which gave me an idea for the groomsmen) as part of their bridal party thank you gifts.

We talked about ideas and when I mentioned including Tide®-To-Go pens and she said, the kit needs to be even smaller.

This is what I came up with for the Bridesmaids:
I included 20 bobby pins and 1 hair band; both matching the individual bridesmaid’s hair color (two blonde, one brunette and one black). I added 4 small safety pins for any clothing mishap, a mini bottle of clear nail polish (for their mani-pedi or their panty hose), a Pep-o-mint Lifesaver® to defeat bad breath, 35¢ (in a far-fetched world where their cell phone breaks and no one else around them has a cell phone), three bandages (different sizes), an individual pack of aspirin, two Pepto Bismol™ chewable tablets, a stain remover wipe, and a Stridex™ Power Pad (for their faces).

This is what I came up with for the Groomsmen:
I included shoe polish wipes (which the bride had picked up the last time she stayed in a hotel), 4 safety pins, 3 bandages, several packages of aspirin, 6 Pepto Bismol™
chewable tablets, a stain remover wipe, a Stridex™ Power Pad, 35¢ (I figured for their get out of jail phone call) and several Pep-o-mint Lifesavers®.

Two of the single groomsmen received and additional item in their ER Kits, but I won’t mention what it is on my wholesome blog…

I played around to carefully arrange these items in a small prescription medicine bottle (which I had to ask her to solicit enough from her family). I labeled the bridesmaids kits “A Night Out ER Kit” and labeled the groomsmen kits “After A Night Out ER Kit”.

I surprised the bride with one of her own as well as one for her fiance. She liked the Bridal Party Emergency Kits so much, that she asked me to make more, for her Mom, Dad, future MIL, future FIL and future step-MIL. If I ever make these again, I’ll have to paint the bottles into small tuxes and gowns.

I had a friend ask me for my decadent cupcake recipe, she wants to use it for a bridal shower she’s planning. I came across several butter rum recipes (and tried dozens) and this was by far the best. I love butter rum cake as a wedding cake, that I used this recipe for my wedding cupcake tree. I’m working on a variation of this recipe for a friend’s baby shower. The cupcakes can be made two days beforehand and decorated the day before. These cupcakes also freeze and defrost well. I suggest using cupcake papers that fit the occasion.

Recipe:
1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1 pkg. instant vanilla pudding
1 c. water
1/3 c. softened butter
3 eggs
2 Tbs. rum extract

Directions
Preheat oven 350°F. Mix all ingredients together with a mixer a medium speed, about 2 minutes or until well mixed. Fill 20 lined muffin cups, fill a little more than 2/3 full. Bake about 20 minutes (until an inserted toothpick comes out clean).

I recently started “coaching” another DIY bride. She’s not thinking about catering the meal herself (like I insanely did), however everything else she wants to do herself. Her wedding is an outdoor summer wedding and it allows for me to share my insights and reflections with her. Today we talked about candy buffets and tent decor. T, These are some of the websites I used to create my wedding dreams.

Candy Buffet
I followed a website’s advice and purchased 10-15 lbs. of each type of candy I displayed! With their calculations, I had way too much candy. Before you purchase anything, select your containers, list the candy you want to include and draw it out. Arrange and rearrange your vase/containers before purchasing the candy. Most of my containers I purchased at the Dollar Tree or in Wal-Mart’s craft section. I was lucky enough to find Mr. Bulky’s having a “Moving Sale” and received a large discount on my Jelly Belly’s. I also used these websites to purchase the remaining candy, carefully comparing the prices and shipping options. Candy Crate, Oh Nuts!, and Bulk Candy Store. My candy buffet included, white Pep-O-Mint Lifesavers, Hershey Kiss Truffles, white chocolate covered pretzels (homemade), blue Old Fashion Candy Sticks, light blue Jelly Belly beans, dark blue Jelly Belly beans, white Jelly Belly beans, cream Jelly Belly beans, light blue swizzle stick rock candy, white swizzle stick rock candy. I shopped around and purchased cute “Scoop of Love” spoons to serve the candy and placed clear candy bags with silver twist ties on the table.

Tent Decor
Paper lanterns are a must for an outdoor tent wedding, you can find then in any shape, size and color you want. I shopped around to find the least expensive paper lanterns and ended up saving a large amount on bridal party flowers as well. I stumbled across their paper parasols and thought that would be better fit for my bridesmaids to carry down my grassy aisle. Luna Bazaar was a great resource for me. I looked for tulle at discount prices, shop around online and remember to use words like “wholesale” and “bulk” to find the lowest price.

Bridal Sharing
Know someone else planning a wedding? Why not share what you have! Whether on loan or for keeps, this was the best cost cutting trick for my wedding and several of my friends. One of my girlfriends gave me over 100 votive holders. Another friend gave me 6 bouquet holders which I clipped on the head table. Lucky for my DIY bride friend I have a lot to share. She’s borrowing yards of white tulle, white flower girl basket, votive holders, bouquet holders, white wedding lights (which I bought for 90% off clearance after Christmas), bubble machines, vases for candy buffet, and “Scoops of Love”. When borrowing items from friends, carefully make two lists of borrowed items, one copy for each of you.
