For years, I collected all the change (that Hubster and Pumpkin tipped me for my amazing laundry services) in a jam jar.

As soon as I ordered the custom decal for my laundry soap canister, I decided to revamp my tip jar. It’s took me a while to get around to blogging about it. DIY Tip Jar

I followed the same steps as I did before. I carefully cleaned a spice jar from Penzeys. After gluing a drawer pull to the top of the lid, I coated them with oil-rubbed bronze spray paint. Finally, I applied the decal to the front of the glass.

Vintage Laundry Room Decor

Nestled inside our powder room, the laundry closet is the ugliest “room” in our house. Hubster thinks it’s silly to decorate an area of the home that is hidden, but I’m the one who spends time staring at these boring walls and want to start sprucing up the laundry area.

These vintage laundry wringer and box iron images are from the Graphics Fairy. Using the collage canvas option in Fotor, I arranged the graphics and added typography. I printed my new images on white paper and slipped them into frames. The black picture frames were $3 at the local dollar store.

Of course, it would have looked even better if I used a large frame and a 8″x10″ mat. Maybe someday I’ll upgrade…

Opal has quickly become the princess of the house. Her demure mannerisms told me that it was time to add a touch of luxury for my furbabies.

I found this white metal tin a few years ago. I wish I took a picture when I first purchased it, because it was covered in pink paw print stickers. They were removed before I even got my purchase home. The mug was actually a favor from my tea party bridal shower. Since I wanted to give the canister and mug a little more oomph, I decided on custom decals.

Yesterday, I showed you my image transfer flop. This project has been in the works for years, and I’m so happy to finally have it done and up on the wall.  I took photos of the project last night so the lighting was awful.

I created the wine labels using the a free online photo editor, Fotor. I had to resize them before I printed them onto off-white craft paper. On Saturday, I found the picture frame at Michael’s. It was on sale for 40% off the original price, and my teacher discount gave me an additional 15% off the sale price. VineyardWallArt

Have you recently salvaged a flopped project?

Custom Wine Label Wall Art Flop

When Hubster and I first married, I sketched plans for custom wine labels. About 18 months ago, I purchased and painted the wooden plaques and designed/printed the labels. Unfortunately, this project has been on the back burner for well over a year.

Finally, I dusted off the plaques and my project resulted in a big FLOP! My images ended up slightly wrinkled and discolored. My paper started to shrink as soon as I put the Modpodge transfer medium on it. 😦ImageTransferFlop

Don’t worry… I’m currently working on another fix.

Have you had any project flops recently?

Perhaps you remember the French Chic (Monogram) Wall Art I made for our family room. When I created it, I immediately planned to create more pieces in the same style (Mom, I know I still owe you and Dad a monogram one…). I’ve had my plan and materials ready, but kept them pushed aside until now.

The Prints:
Of course keeping both poems in their native French, I chose one poem by Baudelaire and another by Apollinaire. The Apollinaire poem was a bit longer, so I split it in half to create two pieces. The text (using a script-like font in grey) created the background image on off-white paper. On each print, I layered Victorian clip art of three perfumes bottles with atomizers from The Graphics Fairy (Thanks Karen!). These images were printed in black ink. Once dry, I sprayed my prints with a layer of clear acrylic sealer.

Framing:
I had thee 8″x10″ bronze frames for my triptych of prints. I layered each print with a white mat that provided a 5″x7″ window for my prints. Once assembled they were ready to hang.

How do you like my wall art project?

Family Room Accent Wall

Even though the Family Room is wide and open and has higher ceilings than the other rooms, this is the room which bugs me the most. I think it’s partially because we spend so much time there, yet the furniture is so mismatched and nothing is finished.

When we first moved in I wanted to paint an accent wall in the family room, Hubster didn’t agree on which wall to use. Luckily the previous owners had already used the same wall as the accent wall, so I used that as my argument to win over Hubster. Then we picked out the colors and Hubster didn’t like the paint chips I chose, he said it was the exact color that was already on the wall. Once it was up on the wall, he agreed that it was a better shade.

A few months ago I decided to have some 16″x24″ photographs printed for wall art. I took the pictures when we were in Scotland a few years ago. He wanted to buy a painting for that wall (Me? BUY wall art for my home? I’d have to really really LOVE it!).

Today I took him to the craft store with me to pick out the frames. He wasn’t too sure about the frames I liked, but he didn’t protest either. I pointed out that they were 40% off and we would get our additional 15% off teacher discount. As soon as we arrived home I cleaned the frames and added my photographs.

Then I showed him how I wanted them hung on the wall. He thought I was crazy to want the center piece raised. I asked him to trust me, and reminded him that he didn’t really have a say in the decor anyway (he can have the basement and garage). After a bit of teamwork, we got the pictures hung on the accent wall and it makes a big impact when you walk into the room. Hubster agrees, I know what I’m doing. The photo doesn’t do it justice, but maybe once I have the room finished, I’ll be able to snap some great photos of the room.

Moral of the Story? Always trust your wife, you know she’s right anyway.

Now we just need to move the furniture back…

What was your Saturday project?
