It’s time for me to try to get back on track with my blog. This November… My grandmother spent the month in the NSICU and is now finally in a rehab center. I had a plethora of doctor appointments. Grades were due for the first marking period, followed by 26 parent teacher conferences. Another stress factor? We were hoping on decorating and finishing our dining room before our Thanksgiving feast, but we’re running a little late. Maybe before New Year’s Eve. Due to my high stress levels, Thanksgiving break was needed now more than ever.

Five things reduce stress for me: 1) baking, 2) painting, 3) friends, 4) bubble baths and 5) well, nevermind… Even though my break wasn’t stress free, it was filled with stress reducers. The best way to end my break? In an empty house, pulling out a fresh blank canvas… or three. I quickly painted this triptych of alliums (my favorite bulb flower) for our dining room. My mind and soul relaxing with each stroke, back to a place where I feel more balanced.

The photo was taken with bad lighting at a bad angle. Once Hubster hangs the paintings on the wall I will update the post with a better picture.

Now it is time for a bubble bath and an early night to bed.

How was your Thanksgiving?

This week, I have several floral arrangements and centerpieces throughout the house. This week, I played with dramatic mixes of color, texture and height. Allium and coral bell blooms are great choices for cut flowers, since the blooms last a long time.

This grouping has tall purple Allium blooms and hosta leaves in the taller center vase, paired with darker purple coral bell leaves and a lady fern fronds in small arrangements.

The second arrangement consists of all shade garden cuttings. I started with green hosta leaves with purple coral bell leaves, the shape or the leave, the colors and textures give a dramatic contrast. Then I placed a dramatic stem of brightly colored red coral bell blooms.

In my bathroom, I clustered Allium at different heights in different vases all in the same color family. The Allium is my favorite flower for my bathroom, the only room I have a slightly feminine color (purple).

The Allium are budding. Theses are some of my favorite summer blooms. Riotflower, these are the “fairy wands” you like!

My last tulips are in bloom. The magic carpet roses are already branching out and forming buds. My perennial garden needs some work, lot’s to thin out and transplant into new gardens. Silver mound and yarrow are starting to fill out. I’m looking forward to this gardening season…

My shade garden is really filling out this year. Some hostas are already full, ferns are awaking and stretching out their arms. A few red coral bells have already begun to bloom. The bleeding heart is still blooming in the center of my garden.

My urn planters and container gardening are green and lush. Some Salvia has already begun to bloom, I can’t wait until it calls in the butterflies. I haven’t planted in my hanging baskets yet, one has become home for a bird’s nest. I enjoy watching the birds just outside my door.

What’s blooming this week in your garden?
