Saturday was such a busy crazy day here, with Hubster, Pumpkin and I all trying to get separate things accomplished. However, it was nice to actually sit down for three meals together in one day (such a rarity). I had a list of crafts that I wanted to get done this weekend, and somehow only managed time for one (although, I did manage to use four 40% coupons at Michael’s). Throw pillows for my guest room.

I printed a few images (from Graphics Fairy of course) on fabric transfer paper and ironed it to the front of a champagne colored napkin. The king and queen crowns were a perfect choice for determining a his and her side of the bed.  I stitched the wrong sides together, leaving an open at the bottom. Then I clipped the corners, turned fabric right-side out and pressed the seams. I stuffed the pillows and quickly stitched them shut.

I thought about sewing an edging on the pillows, but decided against it. It was time for use to snuggle on the couch and watch a movie.Majestic Throw Pillows for Guest Room

Painting apparently is so much more time-consuming than I remember. Of course maybe that’s because we have few additional rooms we didn’t have before (hopefully, I’ll have lot’s of pics to post soon). Our garage is home to boxes and furniture, someday my car will have his own bedroom. Until then, here are some projects I would like to create once we’re moved in enough. A few of these have been on my to-do list for quite some time…

In My Oven:
Homemade Goldfish Crackers look so delicious and a fun project for Pumpkin and me. I already have a cookie cutter shaped like a fish, so I don’t need to make her homemade cut soda can version (yikes!)

Copycat Outback bread recipe, with homemade butter of course.

And these Scallops in Lemon Beurre Blanc Sauce.

Under My Needle
These cute throw pillows have been on my to-do list since they were posted! They add some great texture, although I’d want them to be a bit more washable and would use fleece instead of felt.

I’ve also had a soft spot for this hedgehog softie, I may have already linked to him.

In My Garden:
Super cute antique spoon plant markers with flare!

Landscaping is a far way off, but I can’t wait to make these classic stepping stones.

I had this awful white shirt a horrible shape. I wanted to refashion it, but wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. I cut  the shirt straight across, just below the armpit. I used the bottom hem as my new top hem. Next, I took in the sides and made and attached two straps. Then I ruched a few inches of the top in the center. The shape was loose and cool, perfect for the hot summer days. I don’t normally wear with and it looked too plain to me. That’s where I ran into trouble. I tried adding blue and green braided trim, then some blue and green fabric flowers, then ruffles… I wasn’t happy with the results. Finally,  I remembered that I had some cute buttons and decided to stitch them across the top of the tank. It was cute and I actually liked the result. Something was still missing and I decided that it needed asymmetry; I added buttons to the outside of  the left strap and at the bottom right corner. My new summer tank top was finally ready to wear.

Of course we had a week full of 90 and upper 80 degree weather, and yesterday when I decided to refashion this, the high was 70°F. Go figure…

Pattern 2 test run… Three small flowers minus the buttons, my Easter flowers. Hubster recently revealed how much he likes purple on me… It’s not my favorite color, but it is one of my favorite to wear. 10 years ago I owned one purple sweater, 6 years ago I bought purple glasses and since then have incorporated more into my wardrobe. I have a few students who told me they like when I wear purple, because I look like Daphne from Scooby Doo… I think that’s a compliment.

Flirty? Felt? Flower? Must be time for spring…
I’m working on a gift for a friend who liked my flirty fleece ear warmers (get tutorial here). I wanted to update the style for spring and summer wear. I did a test run for myself, before creating one for her… I’m still playing with the balance of it. I like the five layers I used on the flowers for the ear warmers, but the band was larger. With a simple headband elastic, fewer layers seem more balanced… or may that’s just me playing it safe. Maybe I’ll add another layer next time. These shades of blue and green are some of my favorite colors to wear (maybe because they brighten my reddish hair and make my green eyes pop).

These would make great party favors or would be great peeking out of an Easter basket.

During our in-service on Monday, we talked about an activity we’re bringing back into the classrooms. I would need a ball or something to toss for one particular part. The problem? All of my smaller soft balls are in our storage unit. Time to whip up a simple solution. I had a few left over quilting squares, and quickly stitched them into bean bags for my classroom. The decor in my classroom is soothing turquoise and green, with hints of purple and white, so this fabric is the perfect choice for matching my classroom.

Quick & Easy Bean Bags

Quick & Easy Bean Bags

How To:
Take two squares of fabric and face wrong sides together. Carefully stitch around outside, leaving a 2″ opening. Trim excess fabric from corners. Turn bean bag right side out. Fill with popcorn kernels, dried corn, rice, plastic beads or a combination of the filings. Starting with the opening, stitch around all four sides to close and create a finished edge. Now you’re ready to play.

This is so quick and easy, kids can make their own bean bags. There are tons of bean bag games you can make at home, hopscotch, hot potato, tic-tac-toe, toss game, and more!

What quick & easy solution have you come up with recently?

Remember these monster dolls I made for my nephew’s 1st birthday last year? Now he is turning two! And what my Little Monster deserves is more monsters for his collection. I found these cute monster (rubber duck type) bath toys and knew immediately they’d be perfect with this present. My MIL lent me her sewing machine (mine’s still out of commission) and I stitched together these cuties. They’re not finished yet, I need to pick up some embroidery thread to finish the eyes (in place of the pennies), make mouths and other facial features…

Project In Progress: Monster Washcloth Puppets

I’ll take a picture when they’re done and update my post afterwards. For now, I’m away for the weekend and tomorrow’s post won’t be until later in the evening… hopefully. I already have other new monster ideas for future projects… I already have most of the materials. I love to craft, however I never feel like I have the time.

Do you have any special little monsters in your life?
