In June 2006, family and friends gathered for a farewell party. Hubster’s Uncle Tony was going to be deployed to Iraq. In the fall of the same year, Uncle Tony was tragically killed, leaving behind a young wife, two small sons, and a baby daughter.
The following summer, a picnic pavilion was built at a local state park in his memory.
Each year on the Sunday before Memorial Day, family and friends gather there to honor Uncle Tony and others who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
As you kick off the summer and enjoy your barbecues and picnics, please take a moment to remember those men and women who didn’t make it home, those who died as a gift for you. Remember their family and their friends. Thank them. Give them a tight hug. Think about what freedom means to you.
some of my friends have deployed husbands. i cant imagine them not making it home.
It’s awful indeed! I hope your friends make it home safely!
I am so grateful to our soldiers. Sending love and blessings to your entire family!
