My week-long Cinco de Mayo celebration continues with a refreshing drink (not this morning, after school yesterday). Mojitos! What a fun word to say. What a tasty drink. Although I think they’re originally Cuban… not Mexican… but I’m not a beverage historian.
Ingredients:
Fresh mint, lime, sugar, white rum, sparkling water or club soda, crushed ice
Directions:
Add mint leaves to glass, squeeze lime on top and add a tsp. of sugar. Use a muddler to crush the mint leaves. Fill glass with ice, add rum and top off with sparkling water or club soda. Garnish glass with a spring of mint and a lime wedge.
Other than mojitos or margaritas, what other Mexican beverages do you enjoy?
I love drinks made with Kahlúa! And, I know it’s Spanish rather than Mexican, but I also love a good sangría.
Welcome Calophi! I love Kahlúa also, but have never had a sangría I liked…
I admit I’m picky about sangría. When I say I like a good one, I mean I had one in Barcelona and no other has been as good as that one. 🙂 The bottled ones are gross. It has to be freshly made with all the fruit still in it.
My favourite Mexican drinks are Jamaica, Tamarindo, Horchata y manzanita (the soda)!
There’s a girl who knows what she’s talking about!
Hi. You were absolutely right. The Mojito is Cuban and not Mexican.
You do not need to be a beverage historian to figure it out either. Mexico is not known for its rum, but Cuba used to make some of the best in the world.
Tequila & Mezcal drinks = Mexico
Rum drinks = Caribbean (think: pirates)
Well I’m not a big drinker either… Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
