The other day I sent Hubster and my father on a wild goose chase for pita bread. Apparently in my small-town, U.S.A., the grocery stores no longer sell pita bread. I was disappointed and excited at the same time. I just got some last week, but now I get to make homemade pita bread. Yum!!!!
I found this recipe and decided to give it a go…
I divided the dough into 6 balls and baked them at 450°F for 7 minutes. My baking stone is broken, so I took the advice to use an upside-down baking tray.
Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome. Ready to for some tzatziki or hummus now.
Oh- I’m so impressed! My cookbook has a pita recipe that I have been too timid to try out. How did they open and how well did the pockets last?
Those look great! Actually, they look like they could be used instead of naan bread too–I might have to make some next time we have a curry!
Riotflower – The ones that sat longer, after shaping them, puffed perfectly and the pockets lasted. The ones that didn’t sit as long, had several small bubbles instead of one large one.
Marie – The recipe I posted also has a Naan version, just a little bit different. I plan to try it sometime soon.
Cool, thanks for that bit.
Anytime.
They were really nice and good!
They look delicious!
Thanks, they were!
